- Have treats nearby to reward your pet for good behavior.
- Familiarize yourself with the TeetoTrim™'s LED light feature.
Examine the Nails
- Using the LED Light, carefully examine each nail to identify the quick (the pink/red part).
- If your pet has very dark nails, trim them gradually rather than all at once.
Hold Your Pet Securely
- Depending on your pet's size and temperament, have them sit on your lap or on a stable surface. Make sure they are comfortable and secure.
- Give your pet some time to feel relaxed and allow them to lean into you for support if needed.
Trim the Nail
- Position the clipper at a 45-degree angle, slightly away from the quick.
- Gradually and gently trim a small portion of the nail.
- Keep checking the nail under the LED light to ensure you're not getting too close to the quick.
- Avoid cutting too much at once, especially if you're not confident about the location of the quick.
Reward and Repeat
- After each successful trim, reward your pet with a treat and praise.
- Continue trimming one nail at a time, always checking the quick.
Stop if There's Resistance
- If your pet becomes anxious or resists, take a break and resume later to maintain a positive experience.
Check for Bleeding
- If you accidentally manage to cut into the quick, don't panic. Apply styptic powder or cornstarch to the bleeding nail to stop the bleeding.
Finish All Nails
- Complete the trimming process for all nails one at a time.
Final Check and Post-Trimming Reward
- Inspect each trimmed nail to ensure they are smooth and free of any sharp edges.
